The Tale of the Shepherd Boy

Deep within the mesmerizing rolling fields, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His being was mostly pure, simple, and honest. His main role was essentially to tend to his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the rustling of the wind across the solo tree on the mountaintop were his constant companions. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for company. During one such occasion out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty scheme.

Tales of predators prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a trick on check here the inhabitants.

One morning he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but discovered no beast.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued for a few more days. But, one day, a real wolf did come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is tough to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was in the past.
